Devised first iteration of question

I think the thing that chimes with me most is how we can best monetise our art. This is important to me because I think everyone deserves to earn a living from what makes their heart sing. It is decidedly easier to do this if what makes your heart sing is selling cars. The artist, however, seems to be at a loss. I think the best conceptualisation of my question, therefore, is: How can we make something with artistic integrity that is also commercially successful?

This seems to be a smart choice of question because it’s essentially what my life revolves around at the moment anyway. In this way, the work I do in my life will serve the MA project and vice versa.

It occurs to me that I want to make all different kinds of art all the time, from 3 chord punk songs to sketches to poems to documentary films. My first thought is that for something to be marketable it should follow a certain theme so it can best pander to a certain market. I will look into this further.
